A Different View

Reading this book has really changed my perception of the war and war life. It is very different from what little I have learned about it. Its amazing how much you can learn about the war from one little book. By reading the book, i can just imagine what it was like in the war. I can picture myself being there.

I thought the war was straight military style. Like everyone has to be in order and in line. But in the book, there's different groups where there's only like ten people in it. They have their own little campsite with food and other belongings. Things I would never think of, they would be carrying.

In the book, Mary Anne comes to Vietnam to visit her boyfriend Mark Fossie. She stayed out there for a while and even joined the Greenies. Mary Anne is a young woman, that learned the tricks and trades of the war in Vietnam. With her being there really changes my perception alot. I can see that being there is really overwhelming and can also change a person's thoughts and way of life.

Everyone knows that there's a random chance that someone might end up getting killed sometime during the war. Some soldiers lose good friends everyday. It's hard because you've got to know them and they end up having your back in the war, but if they die, they have to move on, stand strong and keep fighting. In the chapter "In The Field" one of Jimmy Cross' good friend Kiowa dies. He feels bad`for Kiowa and his family, but he doesn't mourn at all. He is more concerned about a picture rather than his friend. My view of that situation is different. I would think that Jimmy would be terribly upset and would just forget about the picture.

I never knew that war would be like that. It changes so many people's lives. "The Things They Carried" has really changed my view on most of the things I've heard about the war. I really never heard much about the Vietnam war. I know that alot of young boys, right out of high school were drafted to serve in this war. I know alot of families were devastated when they found out the news. This is a great war story and i hope to learn more.

What Used To Be

So let me tell you what happened. Back in the days i used to have a good friend named Jasmine,we basically were cousins. We knew each other since we were like three years old. We always used to hang out with each other hwen we were young. Then she ended uo moving to DC, it was all good though because we kept in touch and talked on the phone like almost everyday. After like two years, she moved back to Cali. The "Triplets" were back in action! Jasmine, my twin sister Jasmine, and I called ourselves triplets because we all resemble each other. We would have so much fun together, always crackin jokes and what not. but me and Jasmine were like two peas in a pod. We are always together, either i spend the night at her house or she spends the night at mine. We had the same intersts in things like our clothing style and cheerleading. We were trendsetters. I aint gon lie, I miss those days. Not too long ago, things changed. We stoped talking to each other, especially her. She kind of ignored me, it was a tad bit akward. Well weeks went by and still no conversing. I really didnt know what was up. So One of my friends is her friend,so i deciceded to ask her what was going on. She told me that jasmine had said that basically I putting my boyfriend before her. I didnt know what to say about that. So, i was like whateverrr. I didnt even trip. Its amazing how people change in the way that they treat you. Like we were so close and were ending our friendship because of nothing. she didnt even try to work it out, she wasnt even putting in any effort to even try. That just really shows me her true colors.

Valentines Day

I like this day. Its a day where you can be together with the person you love or like, and just spend some nice quality time. My day was cool. It took me a while to get ready because i wanted to look extra special even though i always look good. lol. But chea, i was looking cute in my pink and black fit. You already kno! So my boyfriend Izel and I went on a double date with Chip and Maci. We all met up at Sandavals, the Mexican restaurant on First St. When we got seated, i decided to give my Valentines Day gift to Izel. I got him some sour Jolly Rancher candy and a cute little pink and red turtle. It was a stuffed animal of course. Haha. But he really liked my gift. Soon, we ordered our food, and while we were waiting, we all just talked, laughed and stuff. I had a nice time but i was hecka madd because i really didnt get to stay with Izel for long. It was all Chip's fault. wiink wiink. Its cool though. At least I got some time with him on Hearts Day.

Back To The Past

Dont you just wish that you can go back in time? Just go a few years back and enjoy the times when you were a little kid. Or to go back and change something that you regret. I wish I had a time machine, but a special time machine where i could change other people's actions. I would fix things that I didnt want to happen to me or them. If I could do that I think my life would be a little better than now. It would be so fun though it would be so wrong. Making people do the things you want them to do and making there choices for them is wrong. Even if I did it, I wonder how things would turn out. Could things get worse? Are things going to get better? I wish I could find out.

Stressful Times

For the last couple of weeks i've been stressed out. I've been having so much homework lately. I get headaches just thinking about it. Also, im dealing with other issues such as family, friends, and boyfriend. It is just so much stress on me because I end up getting off task during school. During class, my mind starts wandering off, thinking about all those issues. I dont kno what to do about it. It is so irritating. I wish i could just pause my life for a couple of minutes and to just take time to think about everything. I know it's not just me having all these issues. I know there are alot of people out there that are haing the same exect problems. Yep, life is tough but we all have to face it.

Track Star

OMG! Im going to do track this year. I've never done it before. I have a couple of friends that run track and they told me that its fun. I'm only doing track to get in shape because im really not a running person. It's really not my specialty at all. Haha. Hopefully it will do me some good. Im kind of scared to run for the first time, im scared that i might lose in a race or something. I hope that im not to slow on the track. Lol. Maybe with alot of training, i might be able to do well in a race. But, i think it's going to be a great experience for me. Im trying something different for the first time. My usual sport was cheerleading. I loved it. Especially the adrenaline rush you get when you perform on stage. I really miss it alot. I just couldn't do it last year/this year for a couple of reasons. Probally, i'll go back to cheerleading for senior year. But for now, track here I come!

The Inaugaration of Barack Obama

Wow! As of yesterday Barack Obama is our new president of the United States. Millions of people were gathered to see this wonderful moment in history, from young to old. When me, my mom, and my sisters were watching this event on t.v., my mom was getting all teary and stuff. She was telling us how we just dont know the feeling she feels. Because some of us think that its not a big deal, like wow we have a new president, whoop dee doo. But it is a big deal for African Americans all over the United States, because we've been through alot with discrimination and all. So we've come a long way. There is a black president in the White House! I think its wonderful. Hopefully, we can make a" change" as Barack says.
